The Philip Glass Ensemble & National Symphony Orchestra

National Concert Hall (Friday 11 Oct 2024)

Experience the Irish premiere of Philip Glass’s powerful orchestral score from the 2002 film Naqoyqatsi (‘life as war’). Performed by the Philip Glass Ensemble, the National Symphony Orchestra, and conducted by Michael Riesman, this emotive piece serves as both a romantic tribute to humanity and a stark warning about environmental threats. The prominent cello, performed by Kate Ellis, symbolizes hope amid turmoil.

Turner’s Watercolours: Scotland’s Vaughan Bequest

National Gallery of Ire. (1 - 31 January 2025)

Turner’s Watercolours: Scotland’s Vaughan Bequest will delve into the interests and motivations of J.M.W. Turner as artist and Henry Vaughan as collector. The works on loan from the National Galleries of Scotland range from detailed topographical views from the 1790s, to vibrant and expressive watercolours of Venice and the Swiss Alps that date to the 1830s and 1840s. This exhibition will encapsulate Turner’s entire career and will showcase his innovative techniques.

Besides these, many other exciting and innovative venues can be easily reached on foot, by taxi or public transport. These include the Workman’s Club on Wellington Quay, Abbey Street’s Academy and of course the many pubs and clubs in Temple Bar which host live music nightly.
